If your business is listed

If you have found your business on one of our directories, nothing is required of you. There is no account to create, no listing to claim, no verification step, and no invoice coming.

That is worth stating first, because the usual experience of an unrequested listing is the opening move in a sales process. This is not one.

What it costs: nothing

• Being listed is free.
• Staying listed is free.
• There is no premium tier, because no paid placement is offered.
• Nobody will call or message you. We have no phone number and no WhatsApp, and we contact by email only.

If someone contacts you by phone claiming to represent Meridian Guides and asking for payment, it is not us. Forward the details to hello@meridianguides.my.

Where the listing data comes from

Listings are compiled from public sources: the information about your business that is already published where customers can find it. Business name, publicly listed contact details, category, and the area you appear to serve.

Because it is compiled rather than submitted, it can be out of date or wrong. A trading name may differ from a registered one, a number may have changed, or a category may have been inferred from work you no longer do. All of that is correctable, and correcting it costs nothing.

What a listing shows

Two things.

Your details, as found in public sources.

A position in the ranked list, produced by a score built from public customer reviews. That score weighs how many reviews you have, how recent they are, how the ratings are distributed, and what reviewers say about the parts of the job that matter in your trade.

It is not an assessment we made of you. Nobody visited, nobody inspected, and no editor formed a view. The full method is on how we rank businesses.

How to improve your position, honestly

The score follows public reviews. So the route is the reviews: serve customers well, and the score follows.

That is not a platitude, it is a description of the mechanism. Scores refresh at the monthly re-check, and recent reviews carry more weight than old ones. A business that fixes what customers were complaining about climbs over the following cycles, and one coasting on a good year in 2024 slides.

There is no other route. You cannot pay for a position at any price, and the ranking engine is featured-blind, so it cannot see whether a business has paid for anything. That cuts in your favour as well: no competitor can buy their way above you either.

How to change or remove your listing

Email hello@meridianguides.my with your business name, the directory it appears on, and what is wrong. The target for a standard request is five business days.

Removal requests are honoured, a removed business is not penalised, and you do not have to give a reason. The full process, including how disputes and legal requests are handled, is on corrections, disputes and removals.

Why your business is listed at all

Because the directory is trying to be a complete picture of a category, and a directory that only listed businesses that opted in would not be one.

Opt-in directories describe the set of businesses willing to do paperwork, which is not the same as the set of good businesses. The excellent sole trader who is busy through word of mouth never signs up, and the reader who needed that name never sees it. Listing everyone we can find, for free, and ranking them by what customers publicly said, is the only version of this that serves the reader.

If you would rather not take part in that, say so and you come off. That is a fair trade, and it is the reason removal is honoured without argument.
