What this directory is
The Klang Valley Plumber Guide is one of the independent Malaysian service directories we publish. It ranks plumbers and emergency call-out services across Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Puchong and Klang, and it is scored by the same published scoring method every Meridian Guides directory uses.
This page is not the directory. It explains how the directory is built, what its order means, and what a business owner should do if they find themselves on it. The ranked list itself is published on klangvalleyplumber.my, and it is the only place we publish it.
We do that deliberately. A directory that also ran a shadow version of its own list on the publisher site would give a reader two orders to reconcile and no way to know which was current. One list, one place, one re-check cycle.
How the ranking is built
Scores come from public customer reviews. The method weighs four things: how many reviews a business has, how recent they are, how the ratings are distributed across those reviews, and what reviewers actually say about the parts of the job that matter for this trade.

For plumbing, the last of those four carries unusual weight, because plumbing is largely an emergency trade. A leak under a kitchen sink can be booked for Thursday. A burst riser cannot. So the method reads reviews for two signals in particular: whether the plumber turned up when they said they would, and whether the repair held. A five-star review that says “came within the hour” and a five-star review that says “took three days but the work was tidy” describe different businesses, and the score treats them differently.
What the score does not use: payment of any kind, advertising spend, any commercial relationship with us, or how long a business has been trading. The full weighting is set out in how we rank businesses.
| Input | Weight for plumbing | Why |
|---|---|---|
| What reviewers say about response | Heaviest | A burst riser cannot wait for Thursday, so turning up when promised is the job |
| Whether the repair held | Heavy | A tidy job that leaks again in a fortnight has not solved anything |
| Review recency | Moderate | Crews and standards change; a review from 2022 describes a different business |
| Review volume | Moderate | It sets how much confidence any average deserves, not the average itself |
| Rating distribution | Moderate | Two businesses averaging four stars can differ sharply in consistency |
| Payment, ad spend, years trading | None | Not exposed to the ranking engine at all |
The ranking is featured-blind
The featured-blind ranking engine cannot see whether a business has paid for anything, because that field is not available to it. No paid surface exists on this directory today, and if one launches it will be labelled as paid and will sit outside the ranked list.
Why the coverage is the whole Klang Valley
Some of our directories stop at a city boundary. This one does not, and the reason is how plumbing is actually bought.

A plumber based in Puchong takes jobs in Petaling Jaya. One based in Klang will drive to Shah Alam for a morning call-out. A householder with water coming through a ceiling searches for someone who can get there, not for someone whose registered address sits inside the correct municipal boundary. Splitting the Klang Valley into five separate directories would produce five thin lists that all describe the same working market.
So the directory covers Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Puchong and Klang as a single metro area. The reasoning behind every coverage decision we make is set out under our directories.
The monthly re-check
Every listing on this directory is re-checked once a month. At that re-check, scores refresh against the current set of public reviews, and any business that has closed comes off automatically.
This matters more for plumbing than for most categories. Sole traders and two-van outfits move, retire, and change numbers, and a directory that never revisits its own list quietly fills up with dead numbers. A stale list is worse than no list, because it looks maintained.
If you run a plumbing business and something on your listing is wrong, or you want the listing gone, email hello@meridianguides.my with the business name, the directory it appears on, and what is wrong. The target for a standard request is five business days. Removal is honoured, and a removed business is not penalised anywhere else. The full process is on corrections, disputes and removals.
