If your business is listed: how to check and fix it

Listed without being asked? You need not do anything. How to find your listing, correct or remove it by email, and the five-business-day target.

If you have just found your business on one of our directories

Nothing is required of you. Being listed is free, staying listed is free, and there is no account to create, no listing to claim, and nobody who will ring you about an upgrade.

That is worth saying first because the usual experience of finding your business on a directory is the opposite. Most listings that appear unrequested are the opening move in a sales process. This is not one. Every business found in public sources for a category we cover is listed under our directories on the same terms, which are no terms at all.

If a detail is wrong, or you would rather not be there, both are fixed by one email. Here is the whole process.

Step one: find your listing and read it

Start on the directory for your category. Each directory is published on its own site, and every directory page on this site links to it.

Search or scroll for your business name. What you will see is the information compiled from public sources: the business name, the contact details published publicly, the category, the area served, and a position in the ranked list.

Check four things.

The name. Trading names and registered names differ often, and public sources sometimes carry an old one.

The contact details. Numbers change more often than the public record catches up.

The category and area. Both are inferred from public information, and both can be wrong, particularly for businesses that have shifted focus.

Whether it is you at all. Similar names in the same city do get conflated. If a listing has merged two businesses, that is a correction and a straightforward one.

Step two: what the score is, and what it is not

Alongside those details you will see a position. That position comes from a score built on public customer reviews, weighing how many there are, how recent they are, how the ratings are distributed, and what reviewers say about the parts of the job that matter for your trade.

It is not an assessment we made of you. Nobody visited, nobody inspected, and no editor formed a view. Where the score is low, it is reporting what your public reviews currently say.

That also means there is no fixed ceiling. Scores refresh at a monthly re-check, so recent reviews move a position within a cycle or two, and how often listings and scores are updated sets out exactly what that cycle does. The honest route to a better position is to serve customers well and let the reviews follow, and there is no other route on offer, because rank is not for sale at any price.

Nobody can pay to outrank you

The ranking engine is featured-blind. It cannot see whether a business has paid for anything, so a competitor cannot buy their way above you either.

Step three: correcting a detail

Email hello@meridianguides.my and include three things.

  1. Your business name, as it appears on the listing.
  2. Which directory it appears on.
  3. What is wrong, and what it should say instead.

That is all. No form, no account, no reference number to quote. A correction with those three parts can be actioned directly. One that says only “my listing is wrong” needs a reply first, which costs you a day.

The target for a standard request is five business days. Legal and urgent requests are handled faster.

Step four: removal, if that is what you want

Removal requests are honoured. Email the same address with your business name and the directory, and say plainly that you want the listing removed.

Two things worth knowing. A removed business is not penalised anywhere else, and removal is not recorded as a mark against you on any other of our independent Malaysian service directories. And removal is reversible: if you want the listing back later, ask, and it goes back.

You are not asked to justify the request. Some owners do not want the extra calls, some are winding down, and some simply do not want to be listed. None of those need explaining.

If you would rather be added than removed

The reverse request comes up too. If your business is missing from a directory it belongs on, tell us and we will look.

Listings are compiled from public sources, so a business with a thin public presence in its category can be missed entirely. That is a gap in the data rather than a judgement, and it is worth telling us about.

Two things to know. Being added costs nothing, on the same terms as every other listing. And being added does not come with a position: a newly added business is scored by the same method as everyone else, which for a business with few public reviews usually means a modest starting place. That is not a penalty for being new. It is the method saying, accurately, that there is not much public evidence yet.

What we cannot do

Two limits, stated so nobody wastes a week.

We cannot remove a customer’s review from the platform where they wrote it. Those reviews are public and live elsewhere. What we can do is look at the source if you tell us a review is false, and take account of what we find.

We cannot move you up as a favour, a goodwill gesture, or an apology for a mistake elsewhere. The score is the score. Manual adjustment would break the only thing that makes the directory worth reading.

The full process, including how disputes and legal requests are handled, is set out on corrections and removals. If you want the broader picture of what being listed involves, read for business owners.

Questions about this

Do I have to pay to be listed or to stay listed?

No. Being listed is free and staying listed is free. Nobody will contact you to sell anything, and there is no upgrade, no premium tier and no invoice.

How do I correct a wrong detail?

Email hello@meridianguides.my with your business name, the directory it appears on, and what is wrong. The target for a standard request is five business days.

Can I have my business removed entirely?

Yes. Removal is honoured, and a removed business is not penalised on any other directory we publish.
